The rules this runs on
A diagnostic has a deadline and a named document
Consulting slides easily into a process with no end: meetings happen, invoices go out, nothing lands. So every engagement has three parameters known in advance — how many days, what it costs, which document you receive. The document is yours either way.
The limit of competence is written on every page
A consultant who takes on everything gives you nothing but a confident tone. Each practice page carries a block saying where we stop and who continues — the bookkeeper, the auditor, the lawyer, the customs broker. That is part of the offer, not small print.
No data, no work
Without access to the numbers a consultant can only supply an opinion, and an opinion is worth nothing regardless of the invoice. The diagnostic therefore starts when the data arrives, not when the contract is signed.
Disqualification is also the service
Half the value of a diagnostic often lies in what it stops. Do not apply for this grant, do not rewrite this system, do not raise this budget. We write those conclusions plainly, because they are what the fee is for.
